Digital Forensics and Cyber Security Academics
The Digital Forensics and Cyber Security Center works with the Department of Computer Science and Statistics and the Department of Electrical Engineering to develop and oversee the curriculum and courses offered as part of the Digital Forensics and Cyber Security programs at The University of Rhode Island. Both the Digital Forensics and Cyber Security programs approach teaching as a mixture between an academic and practical point of view. This unique mixture allows for students to build a strong theoretical foundation and then expand on that by applying real-world techniques and tools to the subjects being taught.
The Digital Forensics Program began in 2005 and has become one of the most comprehensive degree programs in Digital Forensics through a Computer Science Department at a major university. This includes a variety of degree and certificate programs for undergraduate students, graduate students, and working professionals.
The Cyber Security Program consists of a minor for undergraduate students, and tracks in the Masters and PhD programs for Computer Science students. This program is rapidly expanding to include graduate and professional certificate programs for graduate students and working professionals starting in 2013.
The Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) has recognized that the URI digital forensics and cyber security courseware meets their 4011 and 4014 training standards.
